Starting and maintaining a business requires funding. For-profit businesses can count on revenue to cover these costs, however; non-profit organizations do not generally have a steady income from the services they provide, as they are offered to people in need at no cost. Therefore, non-profit organizations must work extra hard to both perform a service and raise the funds necessary to cover operating expenses.
Funding usually comes from family and friends, generous donations, philanthropists, and through grant submissions.
What kinds of things will the money get spent on? VIASAR performs a highly technical service in support of a mission vital to the welfare of individuals and families, so our greatest needs are generally technology based. The US government pays defense contractors millions of dollars each year to purchase equipment and maintain a staff to do similar work; many of our volunteers support the government in this capacity. Here is a general list of the kinds of things VIASAR needs to purchase to go from a fledgling operation to fully mission-capable:
- High Resolution Digital Camera(S)
- High-end Laptop(s)
- High end monitor(s)
- Photo Quality Printer
- External Hard Drive(s)
- Database Hardware
- Various Types of Software
- General Office Supplies
Some of this equipment may be donated, some we may have to purchase. Either way, it is upon VIASAR to seek out the means to meet our needs. Our most immediate needs at this time are:
- Database server hardware
- Server Operating System software
- Funds to install and maintain a business-level internet (T1) line
If you have any questions about how equipment, software, or services will be used please feel free to contact our Director of Operations.
